Use of Past Perfect Tense
The past perfect tense is used for the event that took place before another event in the past. We use past perfect tense when more than one event occurs in the past, but they didn't occur at the same time, but rather occurred one after another.
When two events that occurred one after another are in the same sentence, the event that occurred earlier is written in the past perfect tense(had+past participle).
Example:
Suppose, the following two incidents occurred as mentioned below:
The death of the patient: 10 pm
The arrival of the doctor: 10:30 pm
The patient had died before the doctor came
The doctor came after the patient had died.
Both of the above sentences are correct according to the given condition: first, the patient died, then the doctor came.
